Wix Announces $10 Million Raised to Promote Flash Website Building Software
Wix.com is a start-up company established in 2006 offering free website building software. A recent investment of $10 million has been raised for product development and promotion.

NEW YORK, NY, April 02, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Wix.com is a producer of a powerful, user-friendly, website building software. The company has announced its success in fundraising efforts to accumulate an additional $10 million in Series C funding, provided by Benchmark Capital. Existing investors Bessemer Venture Partners and Mangrove Capital Partners contributed as well. Wix's total funding now amounts to $20 million. This money will be invested in promotion and product development.

Wix users are able to create their own websites for free. The website builder is an editorial tool made simple enough for use by those with no HTML coding knowledge. Users may choose from a wide variety of free Flash templates, which have been designed with specific aesthetics in mind to suit a number of niches. The site's most popular template categories include business websites, photography websites, musician and artist websites. Once a template is selected, the user customizes the visual elements. Text and headers may be added, as well as clip art, photographs, animation, visual effects, video clips, and free song files. Formatting options such as menus, additional pages and frames are also included.

What enables Wix to compete successfully with competitors, is the search engine compatibility of its Flash websites. Flash is known for its incompatibility with search engine crawlers. Yet Wix technicians worked a way around this, and have created software that enables the HTML code on all Wix websites to be fed into search engines, through xml files.

The company also recently partnered with stock image site Fotolia. When adding photograph images to a Flash website, Wix users can now choose from among Fotolia's 5 million images. Users already had access to Flickr, Wix's own stock collection, and photos uploaded from the user's hard drive.

Wix earns its money from its Premium account users, who opt for extra design elements and customization options, and the elimination of advertisements. Websites created through premium accounts may have their own domains, free of the user's user name and the wix url. These accounts are also granted access to Google Analytics, to track the popularity of their websites. Extra widgets such as the shopping cart are offered to premium accounts only.

Wix was established in 2006 in New York, where its headquarters are maintained. The company also has offices in Tel Aviv. There are over 3.5 million users of Wix's free website software and an additional 400,000 new users each month.
